Blues Society friend, and longtime Stage Manager for our Blues Fest-Mike Gelbach has recently appeared in the pages of the Chicago Sun Times. The beautiful thing about this is-he didn’t appear in the criminal listings, as the only crime he has committed is that of being a longtime friend of living Blues legend BUDDY GUY! Check out the article here online from this link, it’s pretty cool… Way to go Mike!
Our date for this years BLUE NOTE OPEN–Quincy’s premier annual indoor winter golf tournament will be Saturday FEBRUARY 20th 2010 starting at Noon. We will have a NEW start and finish point this year, and it will be TURNER HALL, 926 HAMPSHIRE ST in Quincy. There will be much better parking there, than what we’ve had to deal with in the past…
To refresh everyones memory, or if you know little about the event, it is teams of four golfers, (with one MANDATORY desiginated driver-or a separate driver, per team), taking on 9 holes of indoor golf at nine different establishments. The start and finish point is at Turner Hall. THIS EVENT FILLS UP VERY QUICKLY, and we can only handle 80 Teams Maximum, and we would strongly recommend pre-payment. Our pre-paid teams are obviously in the event first, and then we’ll take the remaining allowable number of teams and their payment on the day of the event, if we have any room left.
What are we playing for? First-more than anything, for the fun of the whole afternoon. Second-There will be a cash prize for the team, and individual with the lowest score. Also-teams are encouraged to wear their best golfing costumes, as we will award prizes also for the best dressed team, and also for the the highest individual scoring golfer. We as an organization will be using funds from this event to help out some local school music programs, and to revive some other events locally in the future.
Please scroll down this Homepage for the team registration form, and also note that we have changed the scoring of the holes, to make things more interesting this year.
Establishments included this year include: Turner Hall, The Blind Pig-12th & Lind, North End Tavern-24th & Cedar, Heartland Saloon-10th & Maine, Hooey’s-633 N 12th, The Club Tavern-1023 N 10th, North Side Boat Club-200 S Front St, Cedar Club-20th & Cedar, and The Dock-Front & Cedar St. We look forward to seeing you at The Blue Note Open!
Hey everyone! I’ve been doing a little “snoopin’ around” and I’ve found out some info about some entertainment that we can see this upcoming spring and summer….
First, I’ve got the main lineup for the “ROUND BARN BLUES FEST” (Spring edition), to be held on May 1, 2010. Headlining the event will be the former 2000 Quincy Fest headliner–RONNIE BAKER BROOKS! And before RBB, will be past BID performers-HOWARD & THE WHITE BOYS! This will be a HOT SHOW! If you’ve never been-you are missing out on a great one day fest, and I’ll pass on more info as we get closer to the event.
And also–I’ve prodded out my first tidbit concerning the 2010 “Blues in the District” info for you…Coming back by popular demand, (after they had such a great show last year), will be past BID, and Blues Fest headliners–MISSISSIPPI HEAT, to return to Washington Park on August 27th, 2010. I do know more–but I’m not ready to share that info with you just yet….For now, let’s just say we’re going to have a good year of entertainment coming this year. Keep an eye on the website for more details….
