“CAN JAM 3” Is Coming! MAY 16th

23 Apr

Well friends, May is here, and it means its time to hold our annual spring “Party With A Purpose!”, “CAN JAM III“, at TURNER HALL, 926 Hampshire in Quincy. This year-our date for the event is SUNDAY MAY 16th, and runs from 1-5 pm.  Admission this year is a minimum of 6 canned good items, or $5 per person. This is an event that we’ve done twice before, to help out a local food pantry. We throw a party, bring in a band or two, and ask you to donate canned goods to help out a local charity. This is done to support local charities, and generally costs our Society to do this event, but we do this to show support for other charitable organizations-we too want to give back. This year-we will be donating the canned goods to QUANADA’s food pantry.

Chances are, you know someone whose life has been touched by domestic violence or sexual assault. There is no typical victim and it is never appropriate.

QUANADA provides emotional, physical, and crisis support for those who have been battered or abused.  We offer counseling, advocacy and a secure shelter.

Our services are totally free and confidential. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to anyone of any age who has been battered or abused.

QUANADA serves 5 counties: Adams, Brown, Hancock, Schuyler, and Pike.
Our main office is in Quincy, Illinois. We have satellite offices in Pittsfield, Rushville, and Mt. Sterling.

We’ll party all Sunday afternoon, and try to help fill out QUANADA’s food pantry, which is experiencing greater demand than ever at this time.

This year, we’ve got  Pike Station back by popular demand, and locked in for the Sunday afternoon event. We ask for a minimum of 6 canned goods for admission to the event, but we would love to see a lot more than that brought to help out QUANADA. Let’s challenge friends, family, and co-workers to donate canned food items to help us make this our biggest year yet! If you can’t make it to the event, but have canned goods to donate, contact Blues Society President Linda Gertz @ 217-440-3393 to make arrangements for pick up, or if you would like to help us out at the event. We hope to see you at this years CAN JAM III! Blues Society helping Local Schools

20 Apr

The MMMWBS recently made a $1000.00 Donation to the Quincy Notre Dame High School Jazz Band. This is a direct result of the February fundraiser-“BLUE NOTE OPEN” Indoor Golf Tournament. (I will be posting a article about the Blue Note Open, and some pics from it later this week-webmaster) Proceeds from this event in the past always went towards helping fund the annual “Quincy Area Blues Festival”. But this year, with no annual QABF scheduled, the Society decided to give a hand to a couple local school music programs. We’ve now given to the QND Jazz Band, and we are also going to match that donation, and give $1000.00 to the QHS Jazz Band as well. And we are also going to use funds from the Blue Note Open to be the sole Sponsor of the Sept 10th “BLUES IN THE DISTRICT” Concert-featuring past Blues Fest performer LARRY McCRAY!  And what funds are left will be designated towards funding a “Blues in the Schools” music program in the 2010-11 school year. Thank you to all who participated in the the Annual “Blue Note Open”, not only did we we have a blast, but we’ve helped support local school music programs, and also are helping to “keep the Blues alive” in our local area as well. THANK YOU ALL!
