Hey folks, just a quick update on the status of the 2010 Blue Note Open-Quincy’s original Winter Indoor Golf Event. We’re already over halfway to filling this event up with teams.

Our date for this years BLUE NOTE OPEN–Quincy’s premier annual indoor winter golf tournament will be Saturday FEBRUARY 20th 2010 starting at Noon. We will have a NEW start and finish point this year, and it will be TURNER HALL, 926 HAMPSHIRE ST in Quincy. There will be much better parking there, than what we’ve had to deal with in the past…

To refresh everyones memory, or if you know little about the event, it is teams of four golfers, (with one MANDATORY desiginated driver-or a separate driver, per team), taking on 9 holes of indoor golf at nine different establishments. The start and finish point is at Turner Hall. THIS EVENT FILLS UP VERY QUICKLY, and we can only handle 80 Teams Maximum, and we would strongly recommend pre-payment. Our pre-paid teams are obviously in the event first, and then we’ll take the remaining allowable number of teams and their payment on the day of the event, if we have any room left.

What are we playing for? First-more than anything, for the fun of the whole afternoon. Second-There will be a cash prize for the team, and individual with the lowest score. Also-teams are encouraged to wear their best golfing costumes, as we will award prizes also for the best dressed team, and also for the the highest individual scoring golfer. We as an organization will be using funds from this event to help out some local school music programs, and to revive some other events locally in the future.

Please scroll down this Homepage for the team registration form, and also note that we have changed the scoring of the holes, to make things more interesting this year.

Establishments included this year include: Turner Hall, The Blind Pig-12th & Lind, North End Tavern-24th & Cedar, Heartland Saloon-10th & Maine, Hooey’s-633 N 12th, The Club Tavern-1023 N 10th, North Side Boat Club-200 S Front St, Cedar Club-20th & Cedar, and The Dock-Front & Cedar St. We look forward to seeing you at The Blue Note Open!

We’d like to send out a big thanks to all who helped us out with the 2009 Blue Note Derby. Thanks to the great local Beer Distributors–Budweiser, Coors, and Miller for your items donated to make some pretty cool horses! Also to the other local Businesses who also donated items to decorate the horses, Boyers and Advanced Physical Therapy, as well as the individuals who donated items also. Thanks also goes out to the Businesses and individuals who donated many of the gift certificates used as prizes-Kelly’s, Maya Mexican Restaurant, Papa Murphys Pizza, DD and Janie Fischer, Ben Bumbry, and Jerry Davis. And of course many thanks go out to the many fine folks who worked hard to decorate all 36 of the stick horses used in the event-THEY WERE AWESOME!

We would also like to thank our local media for helping to spread the word of the event. Big thanks also goes out to 103.9 The Fox, and Staradio for running countless spots for the event, and even doing a news spot on WTAD-thank you Jim Dewey and Mary Griffin. Thank you also to Jim Lenz at 90.3, Rodney Hart at the Herald Whig, Y-101, and to everyone else who helped us to promote the event.

Thank you also to our gals who donated the birthday cake for the Blues Societies Birthday-Debbie Davis, Missy Gilmore, and Debbie Davis. And last but not least, thanks go out to Kevin Maddox and Lisa for the great food and service that they provided at the event. Also Ted Tappe & the All-Star Blues Jammers, the sound crew, and of course Turner Banquet Hall for letting use their facility.

This event is in the growing stage, and with the continued help of friends like all of you, we look forward to seeing this event continue to become bigger and better each year.

The Mid-Mississippi Muddy Water Blues Society will be holding the 2nd Annual BLUE NOTE DERBY!, (A Night of Horse Races) to be held on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 7TH, at TURNER HALL, 926 Hampshire, in Quincy. The event starts at 7pm, and the cost to attend is $3 per person, and $5 per couple. There will be live entertainment at the event (between Heat Races) AND-THERE WILL BE HORSE RACING AT TURNER HALL!!! WHAT? (You may ask) are we talking about… Let us explain the event.

The Society will have a stable of highly decorated Themed and Named Stick Horses up for auction, for you to purchase (yes-you can be the owner of a racehorse) and be entered to race. Before the buying and racing begins, you can preview the horses in the stable that are up for auction. These babies are pure-custom thoroughbreds all-decorated like none you have ever seen. Some of the horses you were able to choose from last year included: Clyde (compliments of Budweiser), Harley (Compliments of TNT Harley Davidson), and Elvis, just to name a few. You will be able to purchase your favorite horse (sold to the highest bidder) to race at the first break of the Band. Racing itself will begin at the second break, and the finals will be at the next break. There will be rules posted on site to help explain the racing, and there are great prizes for all winners. Horses will be run in marked lanes, and moved By the ROLL OF THE BIG DICE, determining the horse in what lane that gets to move, and then, next, how many spots it gets to move. We roll the dice until we get a winner, who will get to draw out a Gift Certificate from a local business. Non-racers can also enter the Lucky Chances Pot to try to guess the winning horses, and split a pot with the Society. Winners in the preliminaries will advance to the finals, and we will have a Champion Horse and Racer. THE GRAND PRIZE WINNER WILL WIN A $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM TIRAMISU ITALIAN RESTAURANT! (And also bragging rights for the next year as the areas best Stick Horse jockey). There will also be food available, and we will also be celebrating the Blues Societys 15th Birthday. This event is open to the public, come participate-the bigger the crowd, the better the time! The Contact for the event is Linda Gertz, 217-440-3393. Everyone had a real blast last year, so-come one and all, and we will hope to see you SATURDAY NOV. 7TH, FOR THE BLUE NOTE DERBY!

We here at the MMMWBS would like to thank all the folks that helped out at this year’s “Can Jam”. Thanks to the folks at Turner Hall for having us (truly a great venue for music), of course-THE BANDS-THE FUNIONS, THE CHEESEBURGERS, AND RAISED ON RADIO! You all did a great job, and we were very well entertained throughout the afternoon. We also want to thank all the businesses who donated goods and services, the Volunteers-who make it all happen! and of course-all the folks who gave up a beautiful Sunday afternoon-to help out a good cause! We ended up collecting a big table full of canned goods, and we also handed over $200 to The Bethel A.M.E. Church’s Food Pantry-and they were very excited about this event. They thanked us for giving them this blessing, ad we were happy to do so. This event is for our Community-we do it as a way to give something back. And we look forward to doing this every year, and we look forward to the “Can Jam” every year! Thanks again everyone!

I’ve been recieving alot of requests about the establishments participating in this years “Blue Note Open” Indoor Golf Tournament, so let me now give you the list…
Start and finishing point-”Barneys”, 17th & Broadway, THEN-(in no particular order)

The Club Tavern, 1023 N, 10th St.

Cedar Club, 2001 Cedar St.

Uncle Bob’s, 1301 N. 12th St.

Turner Hall, 926 Hampshire St.

Heartland Saloon, 1000 Maine St.

B & R’s, 339 Cedar St.

North Side Boat Club, 200 S. Front St.

North End Tavern, 1130 N. 24th St.

Remember-we have a lot of teams at this event-if you go to a hole, and it’s too busy-try another, and come back a little later. Also, please be patient, and try to work with the hole monitors, by giving them your team’s scorecard when you get to a hole-to get you in line for your turn!
And don’t forget-this is indoor (goofy) golf–we want this to first, and most of all-to be a good time-SO HAVE FUN! (And it’s still not too late to come up with some great team outfits-and try to win in that category–we love stylin’ golfers!)
