BLUES IN THE SCHOOLS THIS WEEK

I just wanted to let everyone know that we have a couple Blues Education Activities going on this coming week. Our Artists for this week’s activities will be Ben Bumbry & The Messengers, from right here in Quincy. We’re blessed to have Ben and his Band helping us out with our Blues Education Program this year. Ben is going to discuss the history of the Blues, and along with his band perform some music for several different groups this week. His band members-many who are music educators themselves, are going to help add greatly to this years program.

Here’s what we have lined up this week. On Thursday March 1st from 7-9pm at the Quincy Senior Center, Ben and The Messengers will be discussing the Blues, and playing for a couple hours for the folks at the Center. (They’ve requested that we do something with them for some time now, and this should be a good time for all).

Also, we have two elementary schools lined up for Friday March 2nd,-Madison School, and Ellington School. Both performances will be held in the morning. We know that the kids love it when there’s musicians playing for them, and Ben and the Band should be a real hit, hopefully planting a Blues Seed in their minds.

We had hoped to have more schools lined up this spring, but Ben is going to work on a couple more sessions before the school year is up. So hopefully we can get that accomplished, and maybe even a session at the Quincy Public Library for all of the public to enjoy. Thank you to Ben Bumbry for his work on this program this year, and a BIG THANKS goes out to all of our BLUE NOTE OPEN GOLFERS for helping to cover the costs for this program.

NOTE-This is just quick note to let you and Quincyblues.com know that due to overwhelming demand, the deadline for the inaugural Unsigned Only Music Competition has been extended until April 11 2012. This will be the final deadline for this year’s competition.

We just wanted to remind you and Quincyblues.com that the deadline for the newly launched Unsigned Only Music Competition is fast approaching (was March 5th, NOW is April 11th), so we are hoping that you can spread the word to musicians in your reach, through the press release below. As you may remember, the competition is designed for solo artists, bands, and singers who are not signed to a major label record company or any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, or imprints. The goal of Unsigned Only is to find an outstanding, talented performer: a band, singer, or solo artist…a newcomer or veteran…raw or polished – the “gem” that needs to be discovered. Unsigned Only is looking for the total package. Judging criteria includes vocals, performance, originality, and songwriting. There is also a category just for Vocal Performance which accepts songs that are not original.

We are very excited about this new venture, and we truly appreciate you spreading spread the word.

Here’s a Link to a FULL PRESS RELEASE aout the event:

A Big THANKS for a great 2012 BLUE NOTE OPEN!

We here at the MMMWBS would like to take a moment to thank everyone who was a part of this year’s BLUE NOTE OPEN Indoor Golf FUNdraiser. We had a real blast, and raised funds to support this years Blues in the Schools Program, and the Blues Society.

We’d like to thank all of our golf teams-there were some great team t-shirts, and costumes this year. You can go to facebook, and look at this years page-2012 Blue Note Open for some of the pics from this year. A big thanks goes to the additional bars who hosted some real imaginative golf holes, and took some of the pressure off of everyone getting in their nine holes in by 6:30pm. And thanks to this years volunteers, and our event chairman-Chris Cowen for once again doing a great job coordinating everything. And last-BUT NOT LEAST-A BIG THANK YOU TO STARADIO FOR AIRING ALL OF THE COMMERCIAL SPOTS FOR THE EVENT!

We’ve been at this for years now, and we’re continuously trying to improve the event. We made some big changes this year-with more golf holes available for play, and MORE PRIZE MONEY TO GOLFERS! We’ve recieved great positive feedback for this-we know that the winners loved winning some cash, and also everyone appreciated the extra golf holes to help meet the 6:30pm deadline for prize entry. We’ve already working on areas to improve on for 2013, and the tentative date for 2013 is FEBRUARY 9th 2013-the Saturday AFTER the Super Bowl (which will be Feb 3rd 2013). We hope to see you back next year, and bring even more teams along for the fun!
